Lianne, do you have a weight loss plan? How do you stay in shape?

Fad diets do not work. To lose weight, you need to listen to your body's signals and cut down on food you don't need. Simple!

Never stuff yourself! If you are full, STOP eating! Restaurants usually serve you twice as much as you should be eating in one meal. At home, we serve ourselves the same amount that restaurants give us because we think that's how much we "should" be eating. Wrong! Put half that amount on your plate. If you are given too much food, never feel you have to clean your plate because you were told there are starving people in Africa! That's just something parents say when their kids refuse to eat. You're an adult now, and on top of that, your metabolism is lower! Eat until you barely start to get full, and save the rest for later!

When you're hungry, EAT! If you don't eat, you'll only gain weight because your body thinks it's starving, so it stores excess fat. Eat a small amount whenever you are hungry, which is typically every 3 hours or so. Most people think that if their stomachs are growling, they are losing weight while using willpower to resist themselves. This is completely untrue. Your body is asking for food, it needs fuel. Feed it, otherwise your body has no idea when your next meal will come, so it will hold on to fat for energy storage.

Stop eating so much junk food. If you really crave something, give yourself a taste, but do not eat the whole bowl of ice cream or bag of chips. Once you cut down on junk food, you won't want to eat so much of it anymore because it will start to taste too sweet or salty. Substitute fruit for junk food, it tastes good and has nutrients. Instead of soda, drink juice or water. Put good stuff into your body!

Work out whenever your body feels lethargic. Start working out at a gym, and then after a while, once you get into the habit, you will naturally get the urge to work out. According to the experts, cardio should be done 3 times a week for at least 20 minutes each time. (But if you only make it to the gym once or twice a week, it's still much better than nothing!) Do cardio because it's good for your heart, gives you energy and keeps your metabolism down. Lift weights after warming your body up with cardio, and you will gain muscle tone, increase your bone mass, and be stronger. All good things, and on top of that, you'll look good!
